I don't know which is worse. The article or the comments.
"I generally just do "sudo -s", which keeps you logged in as root until you close that terminal window. It's much easier to keep track of that way, without trying to figure out if your time limit is up or not." -numbnuts
"This is awesome, Whitson! I am a hunt-and-pecker and repeated password prompts for mundane tasks in Linux drive me nuts. Which is also why I use passwords like 123 for my Ubuntu user account." -monkey's dingleberries

Worse? Lifehacker of course, for even writing such a shit. Comments? Well this one says it all:
Seems it's fucking hard for some to open a root terminal on desktop 2 via autostart. Or simply use fucking su -CheshireBatUfatherofdragons11L
sudo visudo
In the bottom of the file, type the following:
username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL Today 9:38am
..gnutella..
Re: Faith in humanity........
Gahhh.... Lifehacker.
I'm thinking monkey's dingleberries comment has gotta be a stealth troll, at least I hope...

lifehacker is a pile of manure and the commenters are the flies it attracts.

sux <<-- noob in me had to look that up.
I like the one with the 123 password guy, can't type a password but uses a name like:
CheshireBatUfatherofdragons11L Talk about DUMB!
.. I'm a 3.5 finger typist that looks at the keyboard, and I have proper passwords ... different everywhere I go and I do NOT want:
username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
I don't even like the "15 min" sudo buffer zone.

Re: Faith in humanity........
There are cases where it's good to stay logged in a root for a while (or all the time) but some people think it's just "l33+" to do so (and whatever, it's their box on the line).Sector11 wrote:...

Re: Faith in humanity........
I'm not saying that that's the worst I've ever seen out of life-hacker...once they ran around with steaks strapped to their backs just begging the bears to eat them.
Re: Faith in humanity........
Oh ffs. I'm sure the Arch forum must have loved the influx of Lifehacker readers after that was published.
Re: Faith in humanity........
I just sighed loudly after reading that, im not even going to waste energy thinking of an adjective to describe some of those commenter's.
Anyway, back to work.

Slartie?Willingness to take direction
Re: Faith in humanity........
The amount of cussing in those weekend writeups would be too damn high.
And as wux points out... willingness to take direction. Suuuuuuuure.

Re: Faith in humanity........
If nature has a sense of humor, Slartie will get that job. I will bribe them if it comes down to it.

I'm pretty sure Gawker Media would have many regrets.
edit: since 99% of what I've written over the past 7 years is the property of my former employer, I could only link them to slartie.com .. If they bite based on that content...
