my mums website what I made

Unread post by wuxmedia » Thu Oct 31, 2013 12:43 am

for your shredding;

http://highoakstud.netai.net/php/home.php

temporary home.
she chose the colours 8)

needs a tidy up...
can anyone with an android device, confirm that chrome, on android, totally spazzes the tile/logo all over the place?
iPhone is fine, the old android 'browser' works fine.

Yeah doesn't quite work on android chrome. Imagine 3 vertical columns. All content of squeezed into center column.

Work hard; Complain less

once you go to another page on the site, then come back it reverts to its normal size.
have to try to fight the browser being clever.

thanks bacon.
Ok looks like i need separate stylesheets. Or something.
The browsers zoom in to crop the side space. If bet if you zoom out it will be ok, but thats not the point.

It's OK now. I like that from the start it is clear what the website is about. Could perhaps even be clearer. " We are a family run business, looking after your horse, like our own." Alright, but is family run the most important part? I think HORSE should be central. Also, I'd like to see a horse on the front page. Maybe a picture, of a horsr and the text " Horses, horses, bla bla, bla, and only THEN "family run" (we don't do it for the money, we are just like you, etc etc). Or even lots of horses on the fp. Horse lovers like pics of horses, right?

I'm watching this on a small Android tablret. 1 column, the menu bar moves along when I scroll down. Might be a suggestion to keep it fixed on top. The gallery is nice, but I see a lot of not used space. The carroussel takes up alitle space, the rest is empty. Might be different on a pc.

The contact page does not have an email address?

All this is meant to improve the design and with the best intentions :-) I love the clear design.. !

thanks for commenting!
I guess I could put a pic of a horse on the home page.
TBH they get more business from facebook and word of mouth than a website, this is just to keep me busy 8)

the menu bar moves, you mean the logo text? I thought that doesn't happen on mine any more...
oddly it was position:fixed; when it moved around. changed it to position:relative; stayed where it was... go figure.
the menu on mine stays right where it is. Did you look at it recently?

the pics are pretty small, 480px wide, mobile friendly, right? 8)
TBH my mum emailed me them, one, by one...
reading a responsive design book right now 8)

@bacon - LOL - don't, on the pix on the gallery most of the horses are dead now... not the greatest advertisement!

Hello Wux, I checked the website on my Galaxy Tab 7.7, 3 days ago. Opera browser. When I scrolled down, the menu bar moved down as well (I mean the whole bar). The galery pics are good. I can't say anything about the colours used in the website, you should use the colours that the owner (you mom) likes and that appeal to your customers. I am not a horse man (well, I AM a paardenrookvlees man , LOL) so I would not know. I mean, most non-tech people would find the dark LinuxBBQ scheme bad, but we all know that nerds love it :-)

Google led me to the Facebook page which is nice (lots of pics of horses, of course).

Good luck, hope my and other's feedback help you to improve the site, do as you see fit :-)

Thanks - another damn browser that does it slightly different.
I just installed opera for android, quite nice actually, site works nearly as I expected it should.
no menu disturbance, I'd refresh the cache?

her real life logo on her truck is bright day-glo pink, on the site - full cyan wasn't bright enough for her!

you didn't see the facebook box on the bottom of the homepage?
might as well put a link on the contact box too.

Yeah, Opera is nice. I've used it since very long on the PC, including their weird but nice email client (now gone). I'll check out the site tonight on my tablet.

I may have seen the FB logo, it's just that I also like to see an email address, call me old skool ;-) But again (I'm a marketing teacher by profession) it depends on what your moms clients need, if FB is all they want, then a FB button is enough

(off topic: contrary to popular belief, marketing is not "forcing unwanted and unneeded stuff down peoples throat, using lies & cunning advertising" but "making stuff people DO want and making that available to them at a price they find reasonable". )

yeah, I have made a few improvements, a FB button is fine, although most of the people will come from there anyways.
email has been added, will move the FB button, as soon as the free hoseing wakes up and lets me log in.

my mate did a psychology of marketing, he mostly got wasted (well, when I was visiting) but he was already a cunning salesmen. Worked in your dutch land for coca cola or something.
