Oh my gosh I know exactly what you are talking about haha. I have 2 kids like that in my school also. 1 kid in my enineering class came up randomly while we were doing assignments on computers and told me he ran linux so I asked him what distro and his exact response "What is a distro?" I just walked away. Then there is a kid in my computer science class, wearing a linux shirt and explaining to me how he uses Ubuntu and Kali. Then I started to talk and he had no idea what was going on. I know I am still a wee lil noob, but I was like come on don't say you know how to use linux then when you dual boot with windows.

Sorry for my un-heated rant xD

I had a funny experience last summer along these lines. Young guy on the bus notices my Slackware t-shirt, says "Hey, are you a Linux user?" I tell him I am, and he asks "Slackware, that's an offshoot of Arch, right?" No, I tell him, Slackware is the oldest surviving distro, and Arch came about in 2002. I ask him what he uses, he says Ubuntu, "but I'm thinking of switching to Gentoo." Hahaha, so, you know what Gentoo is, and yet you think Slackware is a fork of Arch? Riiiiiiight...

"I run linux bro."

"Oh yeah? What distro do you prefer?"

"What's a distro?"

Such review. Wow.
I was wondering if this was written by the initially nice asshole, but I see it's older...
