simgin, yes, knew that about the silly horned helmets. Incidentally, we have been watching "Vikings" (History Channel show) on Amazon Prime. Just finished seasons 1-3, now have to wait for season 4!

Bacon, lmao, but I will not attempt to answer in German yet. Had to use Google translate to know what you wrote, at this point. :)

Wait a minute, it's not that only the US made something up. The Germans let people of my generation think that Bud Spencer and Terence Hill were Germans. Back in the day we had only 2 Dutch and 3 German tv-channels. After a few years we discovered that the Germans don't like subtitles :P

Bud Spencer took part in the Olympic Games, swimming for Italy. And Terence Hill's mother is Kraut... There you have it :D

^ Yes, Mein Kampf is next up. No mention of the concentration camps in it though, as I understand.

^ Apparently it has just been re-released in Germany for the first time in 70 years. What's really crazy is that several countries make it illegal to question the truth/validity of the Holocaust. Does the truth really need laws to protect it? ;)

Found this in a box of books and reopened its been along time but its really what got me started. I had dabbled with Redhat in April 95 but this was a good book for the basics.

This past summer, I finally (it took a few years, what with a couple years of college and other books to distract me as well) finished the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson). My favorite series of books so far.

After finishing that up, I was able to focus on finishing A. Lincoln: A Biography by Ronald C. White, Jr. A well written book, with lots of interesting info not only about the man himself, but about the times he was a part of. I could probably go into a bit better detail than that, but I am not well-practiced in note-taking while reading such books, so I'd probably make a fool of myself.

For Christmas, my Dad gifted me Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I had briefly read snippets on Louis Zamperini's running career, possibly from a book I read a few years ago (The Perfect Mile: Three Athletes, One Goal, and Less Than Four Minutes to Achieve It by Neal Bascomb), but I did not know much else about him. I could not put this book down, and it was another reminder of how tough and resilient the human mind and body are, even under such extreme conditions as Louis experienced.

Although that book was good, it took me away from my main focus at the moment: A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin. I am currently on book 4, A Feast for Crows (and no, I have not watched the TV series). I really enjoy the change of pace and writing style of Martin compared to Jordan and Sanderson, but I'm not sure if it will top a Wheel of Time, at least for me personally. Only time and reading will tell, I guess.

I guess that's all the books I need mention for now. I'm sure I will have a lot more to post about since I now have an even longer to-read list thanks to all of this thread's former posts (I blame all of you)!

Reading Dune, somehow avoided reading it in my sci-fi binging younger days. Found a nice leather-bound edition for a good price:
