i'm currently reading The Last Man, by Mary Shelley, and re-reading The Wolf's Hour, by Robert R. McCammon. both are excellent, which is probably why i've read The Wolf's Hour 10 or more times, since i found it in high school.

Snow Crash was excellent. i've been interested in checking out some PK Dick, and i've only made it through two and a half of the Dune novels, which i thoroughly enjoyed.

^ I should read some Dune one of these days. I have been meaning to get into that! Recently I've been reading through Thackeray's Vanity Fair... more of a fun read than anything else :D Satire of the culture of 19th Century Great Britain.

Ah, see, I enjoy that type of writing immensely, thus my enjoyment of the entire Wheel of Time series, among other series/books with vivid descriptions of meals, clothing, battles, etc.

Nevertheless, I am finding The Silmarillion a lot more enjoyable with this attempt, so maybe I'll agree with you once I'm finished.

I recall watching (one of) the making of LotR films, the producer or someone joked that they had got the rights to do the silmarillion...*faints*
it is worth reading some of the rehashed shorter stories, "children of hurin" comes to mind, very similar style to LotR but in different ages.
it's well done in that they are very scholarly, normally you can get through the story and ignore the superset 1's and footnotes which take half the page.
then read the alternate middle section and footnotes after, not always though.

@slartie, I didn't find snow crash to be /that/ technologically outdated, sure they didn't have mobiles.

I always considered the Silmarillion more as a sort of "study book", as in "history book". It has so much information in it about all the shit that happens. If you're into the whole Tolkien universe, it can add a wonderful layer of depth to your experience of it.

^ageed. Personally, i think the 'day zero' things in fictional universe is what made it very engaging.
True for lights of Silmarillion, amongst others.

I am reading "Career of evil" by Robert Galbraith (J.K Rowling) now. This is the third novel about Cormoran Strike, and whilst I enjoyed the first two books about him I feel quite unengaged in this third book. All the Blue Öyster Cult references are cool though.

^ The Kondo Method that has turned my apartment upside down :/ This woman is definitely not normal in her head. If it doesn't spark joy, just dump it. I spent hours and hours folding my clothes like a psycho, putting things in little boxes, and to put these little boxes in big boxes that are again put into larger boxes in order to forget where everything is. Never again.

I don't think there is much of a secret, just have to get the fuck on with it.
we have moved and have 70% of stuff in boxes in garage, nobody actually misses any of it. got the kids books out.
I'm all for just taking them all to the recycling (except my boxes of course :D ) but then we'd have to open them all and sort it...
the day before moving was quite nice, just a bag of clothes and that was about it.
