Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
looking to get a thinkpad from work. a t420 looks nice, my boss has a t400, now a t5xx, others have a t410, so various others are around, hopefully looks viable.
Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
When my Inspiron 1525 dies (hope at least 10 years from now), I'll go with a Thinkpad. Though System76 really tempts me.

Do you like System76? I have heard varying comments about the brand, including that they are expensive Clevo/Sager rebrands. Never have tinkered with one, though. Always wanted to :)GekkoP wrote:When my Inspiron 1525 dies (hope at least 10 years from now), I'll go with a Thinkpad. Though System76 really tempts me.

^ A friend of mine recently bought one of their laptops. Yes, quite expensive, but so far he is happy.
I'd rather buy a ThinkPad, but the new shiny powerful ones are not so much cheaper than System76's, plus they all come with Windows installed (at least where I can buy them), and that's not what I want.

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
What do you say guys? Let's see if I will buy this cheap little piece of original IBM. I want to replace my main notebook with this because it will die a slow death and I could use the old one to test some BBQ spins in the future. Though the battery does not function but who cares, I could even replace it. The hard disk is very small compared to mine but I could replace that, too. I love old and Linux compatible hardware. :)

GET IT!!!!
Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
A reasonable price for a t43/t60/t61 is almost a certain 'yes' from me. You will be very happy with it.

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
Ok, I need some input from you guys if possible. I am having a look on a used T400 with 2GB Ram, HD 250 GB. Seller says it is from 2009, and that the battery runs for ca 2hrs. Claims to have run a hd test that says it is ok. The price is set to 150 $, is it worth a closer look?
Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
^ Indeed.
Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
^^ Yup, not bad for a T400.

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
vic, definitely an OK price -- forget the battery, I guess you won't carry the fucker around will you :)

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
No, it would be very stationary :) I have sent a message of interest to the seller and are now waiting for a response. Thanks for the input guys.

^ Hope you feel better, Vic!
You might consider a RAM upgrade, though 2GB should usually be enough for moderate borking :D

Re: IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads
^Yes thank you, a little bit, some of the worst stress is gone. At the least for the moment. :) Yes that was my thought too, an upgrade to 4GB would be cool. And then BORK! around and use 10% :D
