I'm guessing Canonical is footing part of the bill? And you won't quite know what you're getting (it's a surprise). You're guaranteed at a minimum of specs, but could get better specs based on the pieces they have available at the time. It's a really cool idea.

2GB of RAM, 2.8Ghz of desktop-class processing power and at least a 80GB SATA hard drive
I sure hope it has a nice GFX card to run ubuntu.
colleague just got a 1300 quid lappy with the best GFX card in, it runs ubuntu quite nicely :)

those who are anxious to try XFCE4 in version 4.12: get them from experimental

apt-get -t experimental xfwm4 xfdesktop4 xfce4-panel xfce4-indicator-plugin

should install the necessary parts (no goodies!). Careful, xfce4-mixer and the weather applet will not be installed as they are not updated yet.
