Re: /dev/null
32 bit is ending, and so will I. For the "Stretch" cycle my only 32 bit install will be something on my eeepc. What about you guys?

Re: /dev/null
More than a year ago I switched to 64 bit but I have still two systems running on 32 bit and one machine is only capable of 32 bit.

Re: /dev/null
I ran a couple of 64bit distros on my Dell with a Core-Duo with few problems, but I had 4gb more ram running. I need to upgrade the ram on this before I would try it, but I kind of prefer running this machine on 32bit.
Is there going to be some sort of effort on the part of old box users to try to fork or maintain?
Or is it time to start shopping? My wallet is already complaining, lols!
I almost had that new Les Paul :(

Sir! Put down the hammer and slowly step away from the computer.

Re: /dev/null
I can only speak for myself, but I will keep 32 bits alive, and I am pretty sure that anticapitalista thinks the same about antiX. It's a kind of niche, and you guys probably know that the BBQ is extremely niche :D
I would even say that if I had the choice of maintaining only one architecture, it would be i686. If somebody already has a 64-bit capable computer, he or she can spin his own shit from a netinstall and add the BBQ goodies on top. They don't interfere with systemd :D
For me, a default BBQ is: 32-bit, sysvinit, alsa, TUI applications. One could argue if Debian is a suitable base - right now, it's pretty painless. As soon as they start dropping the good old stuff (32 bit, sysvinit, alsa), I'll rebase. Been playing with this thought for at least 2 years already, but there's a thing called comfort zone ;)
Edit: forgot to mention that I have a handful of old laptops that can only run 32 bits (a Panasonic Toughbook, an old IBM T43, a Toshiba laptop and an eeePC - latter is actually the coolest one, booting into Emacs on TTY1 and tmux on TTY2, and it's by far the box that gives the most productive environment, albeit being a bit slow at times; different kernels bring different results, I should actually create an eeePC respin)

Re: /dev/null
Most of my installs are 64-bit now. CRUX dropped 32-bit a while ago, and Arch is about to drop it. I expect Debian to keep 32-bit around for a while and say here that 32-bit stretch will be supported until 2020 or 2022.
I'm running 64-bit Jessie on my main machine right now, but could just as easily run 32-bit and be happy. I am mainly using 64-bit on this box because it has 4G memory and I don't like PAE.
Having said all that, I still think BBQ keeping 32-bit as default (or only) architecture is a good idea. I also think using non-PAE as default for as long as possible is a good idea.
I also have several 32-bit test boxes, but they are not hooked up right now. If I get back into experimenting one of these days I will hook them up, or run some 32-bit distros on my other boxes.

Re: /dev/null
Like both pidsley and vic, almost all of my machines are on x86-64. The rest are rPis and VMs.
With that being said, almost all of my VMs are running linuxbbq. :)
^ Oh what a shame..... RIP Alsa

rice no more.
Re: /dev/null
I heard about the Alsa thing awhile ago on the Arch forum -- a lot of people there are very upset about it. I don't play sound in Firefox much, but I do sometimes, so I am sticking with Firefox-ESR on the machines where I need sound. Not sure what I will do when ESR also requires pulse. To me, this is worse than the loss of 32-bit in some distros.

Just wanted to say systemd's journalctl is not all that bad. Just a new tool to learn.
so far it's debugged what I wanted it to do this morning, or at least found the logs I was looking for.

Re: /dev/null
Well they are around us and our neighbours. Thankfully it is not these really big beasts, but it is quite scary when they dive and scream at me. :O

I am having this one. Made here.

The link is better than my crappy photo. It is a seasonal Maibock.

Strong and a lot of green gold (hop).
