Re: /dev/null
^ nice article. I fully agree, funny. I recently deleted twitter and reddit from my phone too, replaced it with reading some e-books about how the web, tcp/ip and http stuff actually work (which has been sinfully missing from my brain) :D.
Titan and I (and I think rusty) are still on the IRC channel, but only during UK working hours (ish), even then sitting in a message channel moaning about work :D.
Does the email subscriptions still not work? That might help keep people reading the grill, at least the members.

That is all fixed now. the cookie was setting the wrong domain (linuxbbq.org) so it just didn't work, just changed it and it's auto login now.
you may need to delete the old .org cookie, possible the .com one too 'delete all forum cookies' at the bottom of any forum page.

Not that I've ever been unhappy with my phone, but I so long for the days where there you could talk to someone without him/her looking at that damn screen every five minutes.

I got told off by the kids scout leader (who wasn't a young one by any means) for not checking my phone at all after work. (they'd sent an email about that nights session) I was quite shocked.

We have a rule at our dinner table. Simple, no phones! The next time I invite somebody I will collect the phones like my better half does in school.
Re: /dev/null
^ At home there is basically an implicit rule similar to yours, so I am lucky. Problem is at work and everywhere else. I think the last social gathering where everyone was actually paying attention to the conversation was more than 10 years ago.

Re: /dev/null
Sometimes the conversation revolves around a Youtube video or somebody is desperately trying to prove a point with the help of Wikipedia. Yeah, I know what you mean. Hence I am not leaving the house today to have some beers.
Re: /dev/null
Yes, the screen addiction epidemic sucks. And it is just worsening for every day that passes. We really need a cure, no I am not being ironic, I do think that the "smartphone" never should have been invented. People really need to test themselves.
