I was not a smoker at that time. Ok, I was heavily into passive smoking.

Did it today: resizing partitions (shrinking /home, more space for /) without any care whatsoever about the fact that I had still 4hrs of work to do. It took gparted 3 and half hours to finish all that, plus e2fsck and resize2fs to notify my system that now / is bigger. Well, still 20 minutes before leaving, so I guess I won somehow. Still, I'm an idiot.

The moment when you want to move the info window of gparted but the content doesn't get refreshed:
"Hm, should I xkill this now or wait?"

Love it.

Blew out the corporate public-facing web site. Blew out the backup on another server (within seconds of the first).

That was a nice 20 minutes or so until the restore from sysops. Right as soon as I realized what I'd done phones started ringing all over the place. I stood on my desk and made eye contact with my employer and mouthed something like "Me- sorry". After it was all back to normal I made the long walk over to his office. I just said "Housekeeping". He nodded his head.

^Yup. Close to the same era too, but a bit later (still required a tape restore). Most everyone did something like that (rebooted the employee work server thinking they were just doing their local Sparc box, etc.), but this was one of my very own shining moments. :p

Thing was- it was so easily prevented, it was one of those procedural things you just do and don't even think about until it goes way south. After that I started color coding my xterm windows by server so I could tell right away whether I was in live space or work space.

Happened this morning:

- downloaded OpenBSD 5.4 iso
- happily burnt the iso to a CD
- inserted the cd in my Aspire 1304XC
- forgot about network cable and of course wireless needs a driver
