Hello from novaburst

Unread post by novaburst » Wed Jan 29, 2014 3:55 pm

Hello, I'm new here. machinebacon gave me the head's up about LinuxBBQ over on the CrunchBang forums. I have tried many Linux distributions over the years and was involved with SourceMage Linux for several years. I'm looking forward to finding out more about LinuxBBQ.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome! "Want to get involved in development"? That's the right place here, especially with SourceMage background. For now, take a look at the Config and Dev sections and maybe you want to share something with us. We try to include most of the stuff there into the releases, so if you have ideas related to scripts or little helper tools, just post and we can look into it.

Welcome to the Q' novaburst (not going to lie, I thought that was a location due to the title.)

It's a pleasure to have you.

I've been trying to pick a release I might like to play with. So far I've downloaded Trollinger and Darkside.
It's cool having all of these options to pick from.

^ If you want an LXDE release, use Coal instead of Trollinger. Trollinger is a bit out of date and it can be very difficult to get past its first dist-upgrade.

^ Plus, Coal is superb, I'm still happily using it though I planned so many times to replace it with a newer BBQ.

i always giggle inside whenever a new user arrives from the #! forums and the first releases s/he will use are nearly always Darkside and/or Trollinger/Coal.

like i said before: i use Openbox because i am a pussy.

Start with a Boner!

^ True :)

My personal recommendation is 'noob killah' (or anything no-gtk/extra-lite) to get into the groove at the grill. It's - at least IMO - the spin that comes closest to what LinuxBBQ should be. And time has shown that these spins survive update cycles without hiccups. As soon as gtk3 is added, shit breaks - I should actually remix Darkside and remove all the gtk3 shit from it, because this upstream problem throws a dark shadow (pun!) on the BBQ. Those days I didn't know that 3.8 will render the system useless.

A very interesting idea.
