Update to any old/new irc users - new channel titanmech and machinebacon took care of. #linuxbbq (just 1 # now only change)
Hi. I have been joining the IRC channel a bit over the past 2 month's and I notice sometimes it does not have a good ammount of people in it. I am just creating this topic to see how many vow's we can get. I am here to help the community when possible as I do have a very busy work schedule myself. I am fairly new to linuxbbq but I will be sticking around for quite some time. The times I do get to helping though the very good already in place staff has already gotten to it :) however there are times when some of us just want to bullshit around or maybe someone wants to drop in and introduce themselves or ask for some quick help. Now the forums are already quick as I was saying above but as we all know everyone gets a bit antsy sometimes. I will be joining the IRC channel each and everyday as I leave my machine on almost constantly after I wake up anyway, I may go idle/away walking away from the pc but could be just sitting there working as well. This idea just sprung up from reading others in the IRC today that sound about the same as I have already been thinking of over the past couple months so it indeed should come sooner than later. I could add at least a couple more reason but we all know this isn't a bad idea. If you are a newer user or don't know how to join IRC or install a program, here goes.
1. easiest way to join. click this link http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#linuxbbq and add your nickname and type the letters you see that we are all used to. there you are in but if you dont wanna keep a browser tab/window open for time the time being or to chill around with us for the day then do next step.
2. to install a irc program (xchat):
open the start menu and locate your terminal program (the program that says your username @ hostname with a blinking cursor) once opened type "sudo apt-get update" this will update package list then type "sudo apt-get install xchat" and type in yes if it ask for you too sometimes it just auto starts. After installed locate it in your menu and open it up it will popup a network list. Fill out a few nicknames you would like to use. the first one is main of course. others are in case it is in use on network. most likely it will not be unless you put something simple like "coolguy", next locate "FreeNode" and click connect. now in the spot where we would all type "hi or whats up" type "/join #linuxbbq" of course quotes are out.
Hope this helps any new comers! Have a good one guy's and please say "Sup Dog" down below lol if I forgot somethin just say it.
