Online storage of configs and dotfiles
Users of the BBQ can now apply for storage space on the BBQ server. All file types are allowed. The folder is only write/readable via FTP, with username and password.
For example, user dkeg's location is http://linuxbbq.org/users/dkeg -- dkeg could now upload an index.html or index.php file, if he liked to. Anyway, his files won't be seen from outside.
To send/retrieve files, an FTP client has to be used (GUI: gftp, filezilla, CLI: several like gftp-text, ftp, fput, ncftp, ftpcopy)
If you are interested, please send a PM with:
- your desired username
- the login name (must contain 4 letters, and a digit)
- and password (must be six letters, one of which is capitalized, and a digit)
I will set it up manually then.

Re: Online storage of configs and dotfiles
I'm having trouble seeing these on the web, I'm u/l a bunch of wallpapers. to here;
ftp://$LOGIN:[email protected]:21/li ... edia/walls
going to this url http://linuxbbq.org/users/wuxmedia/ or http://linuxbbq.org/users/wuxmedia/walls gives a 'moved to Atlanta'
I put them up to see if you wanted to put them into the 'official' wall directory.
if they're already on your server, and if they pass muster, you can transfer them quicker
tl;dr - i'm not too bothered if i can see them on the web, thought it would save time (I worked out how to make them .png) and bandwith.

Wux, maybe you need to create a "walls" directory for this - does it exaist, and if no, can you actually create it? Just curious, because I haven't tried it with the user accounts.

Re: Online storage of configs and dotfiles
wrt to the official wall directory, put them somewhere like dropbox and send me the link (please rename them to something like wux14.png (and higher)
I will upload them straight to the server without quality check and extend the list for the bbqwall app.

Re: Online storage of configs and dotfiles
i'm using wput, which is nearly finished, so i can only presume that it can perform mkdir's remotely...
BTW there are 748Mb of walls. nearly 80 pix.
i'll ins Filezilla and have a poke around.
------------------------------------update-------
wput turned all the pix into one huge file... called wall...
I'm happy in Filezilla...
OK they are in dropbox right now, i'll PM you the link.
without QC, are you mad??
but I'm happy with them.

Re: Online storage of configs and dotfiles
its the PNG format - even with max compression. they hit 14Mb a piece.
Straight out the camera the JPGs were 1~2Mb a piece (it's only a point and shoot auto camera)
shall i revert to JPG? it would reduce the size 10 fold.

Yes that would be good, thanks wux. I already got a few terror emails from my hoster wrt 'fair use' (that's why the ISOs are at SF) in the recent weeks.
