Propaganda

Unread post by machinebacon » Wed Jul 31, 2013 9:02 am

Articles, reviews and posts about the grill can be placed here (helps us to find out enemies, too) :D

I just installed this on my EeePC 900 (after deciding that KDE is a bit much for it), and it works like a dream! Wireless worked out of the box, touchpad works and almost everything else, except volume function keys. All the other function keys work. The version I installed is Trollinger, with LXDE and OpenBox as WM. It installed in about 1.5GB from a 429MB iso, boots to around 100MB RAM and is very snappy. I think it's a keeper!

Or an even more fun example about Jimmy’s BBQ in Malvern PA, and whether the customer, who was wearing a The Linux Link Tech Show tee-shirt, had ever met Eric Raymond. http://silvereclipse.com/index.php?main ... =2&cPath=2
I work in Malvern PA, and did in fact see Eric Raymond speak.

rhowaldt,
I had forgotten about that SMLR review by Mary. Saved and listened to that podcast.
Enjoyed her trying Oyster.
As to podcasts, anyone know whether Fab and Dave ever covered BBQ? Which reveals the horrifying fact that when the H went kaput, it took Fab with it -wtf?
Image
Of course my favorite BBQ review wasn't a real review. It was the email exchange between Dave and Jesse. Now partly carbonited in the wiki.
Leave it to a fellow Florida boy, Dave aka twodogs, to bring this to the Q. Because, Florida. America's penis. No offense intended to Dave, dogs, penises or America.

I don't agree. I have never had issues upgrading, and I don't find it to be high maintenance at all. if your going to review something, get it straight first.

Really, the only strong negative (from memory) was that, across the various releases, the respin-specific docs were either displayed to a (gag) 80 column by xx lines ncurses window... or were available in html format (but) linked to menu entries or desktop icons which launched Dillo (gag) as a viewer for the docs. Don't get me wrong, the docs were relatively well written... it was just a PITA to view 'em.
1) It's not dillo.
2) It's a feature.
3) PITA can be quite enjoyable.
For me, systemd represented a "disadvantage" (unappealing).

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge systemd
sudo nano /etc/default/grub -> remove all occurences of init=/bin/systemd
sudo update-grub
e voila - back to 40sec boot time :) Sounds like ratcheer to me :D

i don't understand what he expects the docs to be presented in?
a flash / powerpoint presentation?
an 80col term window is great for a small screen. plus accessible from the tty. also standard from man page style. html is in cookbook, great. beats the shit out of windows .chm (gag)
still he did actually look at the docs. 8)

^ thanks wux, I agree and this was the reason we put everything in cleartext for links2 and into the cookbook as html, and manpages are generally read in the terminal :)

You said the G-word! :D

There's xman (simply awful) and the method via groff + browser:

sudo apt-get install groff
man --html=<browser of choice> <manpage of choice>
man -H <manpage of choice>

I'm not keen on the current release-name trend ("ganbang" and other sexual innuendos)
whahahahaha
