If you followed my
upgrade path to Mate 1.8 in Debian sid then be aware of some glitch with libcaja-extension1 while dist-upgrading. You will get some newer packages from Debian proper and run into dependency problems with the third party repository as expected, just make a:
and later d-u the rest of the packages and you are good to go.

Only three packages are left therefor the transition is almost complete. I will mark it ready for production as I tested it.
When you upgrade and see the occasional removal of some packages that are not yet synced, just reinstall them or a simple apt-get install -f and they will be pulled from the unofficial Mate repo.
When the rest of the packages are finally in sid, you can remove that repo.
