[RESOLVED] Recent firmware updates - Broadcom

Unread post by dkeg » Tue Apr 07, 2015 2:54 am

My wireless card is a broadcom 43225 which requires firmware-brcm80211. Over the weekend there were 3 seperate firmware updates. I don't reboot over the weekends, so I had not felt the negative effects until this evening. No matter what, I could not load the brcm driver. Couldn't find any reports out there either.

The version that gave me issus is 43.3. My solution was to blow it out, and install a previous version. I installed the wheezy version (36.1).

So wireless is back up and running for me. Anyone else?

I dist-upgraded last night on Haggis. I have bcm4312 and the firmware got upgraded. No issues so far.

Seems the Debian BTS is not telling anything.

I install the 4.0 kernel, just to check if possibly that would help, and still the same. Odd. Oh well, I have the wheezy version saved just in case. That seems to work just fine.

Code: Select all

firmware-brcm80211:

Yes! That version works fine too. Just tested.

I had not picked the wheezy version purposely. It just came up in my search. I had tried as quick experiment. Since it worked, and I had the .deb file, I let it be.

Okay, then I'll put this version in future releases, and not siduction's (fixed one, which might work with a siduction kernel but not with vanilla Debian) :) Thanks for the feedback.

Marked as resolved.

.44 came out a bit ago, although I continued to hold until I was motivated to go down that path. Although I'm on Victory now, it is the same machine and wireless card.

I upgraded just now and rebooted. It works just fine. For what is worth I'm on

Code: Select all

4.0.0-2-586
