[save :)] Safe to remove? - modconf & module-init-tools

Potential noob question. It's been a good few weeks since I logged into my Sid VM, so maybe (highly likely) I missed something. Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this, but it seemed fitting since it's d-u related.

Did a d-u yesterday and nothing exploded. Seems I somehow passed the perl transition without noticing. Today however, apt wants to do this;

Code: Select all

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  modconf module-init-tools
The following packages will be upgraded:
  kmod libkmod2
From what I understand, module-init-tools is a dummy package intended to be removed after the transition to kmod is complete. As for modconf, no idea how it even got in there. I thought it was deprecated a long time ago.

So anyway, just double checking. Safe to remove em both?

I can verify, both mentioned packages are not installed on my system and everything works fine.

4.2.0-1-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 4.2.6-3 (2015-12-06) i686 GNU/Linux

modconf is ancient, remove it.
module-init-tools is not needed because you already have the newer kmod.

;)

I'm still wondering how modconf even got there. Haven't been paying much attention to this particular install recently, but I was sure it already got purged long ago. Anyway, thanks chaps.
