Im unsure what to do here, so ive not held back anything or forced any updates.

I did not, but the version is now .28 IIRC, so I took off hold and upgraded. It still removed openrc though, but I survived.

Went into that same situation a few days ago. apt-get install -f didn't helped the other day. Didn't tried today. I'm still holding it.

It seems Drew knows the secret sauce because he just went ahead with it.
And apt-get install -f won't make anything special because you still have openrc on hold.
Maybe it is still best just to wait. But some of this stuff can take ages.

I simply just copied the rc#.d directories from another install back to my /etc directory. Rebooted and was aok. I tried to reinstall openrc b/c supposedly there was a fix. It was the file-rc package/file that was installed, but that did not seem to make a difference [for me]. I had some unmet dependency bullshit, circling me back to the xorg bullshit, which I still have on hold, so fuck it. To me, openrc doesn't make much of a noticeable or practical difference.

^ signed. I switched to sysvinit, it does what it says on the box. anyway we can't remaster with openrc because there is no live-config/live-boot package that uses openrc for the live session, so :shrugz:
