Gmpc seems not to be compatible with gmpc-plugins [fixed]

Unread post by ivanovnegro » Mon Sep 30, 2013 10:59 pm

Yesterday I did a d-u and I found out that gmpc 11.8.16-7 comes with the gmpc-plugins 11.8.16-1 disabled even though they are installed. No idea why, I did not find anything on the BTS, so it is not yet reported.

I reverted back to gmpc 11.8.16-6 from Testing and the plugins are working again.

If you experience the same issue and already upgraded to the newest verion from Sid then do this:

Download gmpc and gmpc-data from the Testing repo and in my case

Code: Select all

dpkg -i gmpc_11.8.16-6_i386.deb gmpc-data_11.8.16-6_all.deb
it will remove the newer versions and install the older .deb packages. Profit.

If you want to prevent the bug or a future upgrade until it is fixed put gmpc and gmpc-data on hold.

If I am in the mood I will send a bug report.

Edit: The bug report

In case anyone else is wondering (I had no idea) gmpc is gnome music player.

(everyone else is off laughing at pidsley and saying, "well duh")

(edit) and I was even wrong about that. it's gnome music player client -- a graphical frontend for mpd. STFU pidsley.

^ That still does not solve the problem. :D

In case anyone is wondering if gmpc has something to do with Gnome, nope, nothing.

Sorry, I thought it might help people decide whether they should care about this bug or not. I see now that it is gnome music player client -- a graphical frontend for mpd.

http://packages.debian.org/sid/gmpc

Never mind. I will STFU now.

This is the Upgrade Warnings section for Sid, so it is more than justified to warn about it, IMO. Where else? And gmpc has nothing to do with what we today know as GNOME3.x, as stated above, the g stands for GNOME in gtk-2.x, and gmpc was one of the first choices for MPC/MPD frontends, together with Sonata and QuodLibet (that is now GTK3).

Ivan, keep 'em coming.

/edit: please no derailing in the upgrade warnings section, this bumps warnings every time a post is submitted.

Thanks in advance :)

OFFTOPIC :
Funny, because we mentioned gmpc many times in this forum, it is not like we are talking about KDE apps here. Even though we want this to be the world's most famous upgrade warnings section and you can find Gnome and KDE warnings, too! :)
A correction, quodlibet is not an mpd client but they switched to Gtk3 indeed, unfortunately gmpc already has a future Gtk3 version.
