Kernel 3.13-0.towo-siduction

Unread post by dkeg » Mon Jan 20, 2014 2:13 pm

I had an upgrade to 3.13-0.towo-siduction-686-pae this morning. When I tried to reboot, it started, but halted about at the point udevd loads, and screen went black. I had to force power down using the power button.

So I'm back on 3.12-8 for now.

Curious to see if anyone else runs into it.

I'm running Colin. I haven't tried upgrading on a different spin yet.

thanks,

udev:
Installed: 204-6
Candidate: 204-6
Version table:
*** 204-6 0
500 http://ftp.cn.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
204-5.2 0
500 http://packages.siduction.org/fixes/ unstable/main i386 Packages

seems the siduction version is the fixed one, you can try to use that (didn't check for 64bit)

Tried this on mine:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libudev1=204-5.2 udev=204-5.2
Still can't boot. Maybe it is not related on udev on my setup.

Strange, booted into 3.13-0 without problems:

Edit: this is the December 2013 base (so the releases Smoker, n00b ki11ah et al)

I had a feeling this would happen. I'm at work now, but can dig further another time. Maybe we remove from Upgrade Warnings? Sorry for the false alarm.

Edit: my bad, I posted 3.12-8 params. Have to figure out how to post 3.13 without booting into it.

Got this error when updating grub, though:

Code: Select all

depmod: ERROR: Module 'hci_vhci' has devname (vhci) but lacks major and minor information. Ignoring.
Did a quick search, seems I can safely ignore it.

My system is using about 40 MB less RAM with the new kernel.

Just for kicks, can you reboot, hit [e] in the grub screen, choose the 3.13 kernel and remove the init=/sbin/systemd for now, then hit Enter to test?

If you have time to test, also replace quiet with verbose, to see more output.

Done.
I can see the boot successfully loading the b43 firmware, than screen goes black with a blinking cursor and nothing happens till I press ctrl+alt+bksp.

rub it in Tim :)

for kicks, I pulled a diff of each kernel config. May or may not be of any help, but it was interesting. dumped here for reference

side by side

differences only

not using systemd here. I'll go the verbose route and see what I see
