No worries S11. Keep learning. Same with my eyes. I just recently got glasses, and wow, so much better. Have to go see a specialist, may need to get cornea surgery.

something tells me this isn't going to be done in 5 questions or less. next one should be done in 5 questions AND max 10 posts ;)
I see the smile and I want you to know: don't take what I said personally. Wasn't meant that way.

OH MY! Sorry to hear that .. if you do I hope all goes well.

On another note ... a little of an explanation:

If that looked a little harsh I'm going through something personal right now ... it obviously spilled over into my earlier post.

It took me 11 years to get through grade 8 in school ... I'm was classified a slow learner. I went back to school as an adult and got my grade 12 in my mid 30's.

Now lets get another thing up front, help me if you want - ignore me if you don't. And trust me, I spend a LOT of time talking to my friend: Startpage. I'm not afraid of learning or even trying shit ... can't count the number of times I've burned a system ... I'm still here.

And I will get HotDog running smooth yet! BTW, it now has OpenBox. :6

BTW: How many questions now?

Today for the first time ind a while I logged into BBQ HotDog ... OK NOW I have a question ..

My session starts OpenBox - I like the Nightmare-02 that's available

A couple actually ... Open Box can't fine the webrowser: x-www-browser

Q #1 What is the default web browser?

Q #2 What's the name of the terminal file manager in Hot Hog? I remember I liked it better than ranger but can't find it.

I thought of dragging my #! OB Menu over to BBQHD and decided not to ... keep it simpler since its only a "crutch" for me there anyway,

OH YEA: patch is on hold ... gotta find out what that is.

S11, good morning. to have x-www-browser, you need one that can be used in update-alternatives for an x-www-browser, so xlinks2, iceweasel, chromium, dwb, uzbl, luakit, xxxterm (zombrero), and so on. Some browsers like elinks or lynx are not x-www-browsers because they don't need X to work.

sudo update-alternatives --list x-www-browser would show you valid choices. If you install links2, you get xlinks2 as most rudimentary browser with X support. Using dillo would give you a slightly prettier output. So, anyway, install one full-feat browser and you get x-www-browser, else you need to modify the openbox menu to use:
x-terminal-emulator -e links http://google.com
or something like this, to open terminal applications. By default, links is the no-X browser, clex the file manager, you can also use gitfm from the gnuit package for this task.

Grabbed links2 - I remember that from a previous incarnation

clex .. yes that's it... I see a learning curve but it's a cool terminal FM

Think I'll include mutt as well some people have told me that's decent

I have xxxterm in #! not a bit fan - maybe because I don't know it all that well. dillo rings a bell ... dmenu tells me I have it in #!. I'll use that until I get more accustomed to links

This si getting better ... will have a screenie up today ... rough but will have one.
Also have to add a user. Still working with bbq@bbq

AWESOME! Thank you. :D

Hey dkeg is pidsley spying on us?

My first screenshot ... dedicated to LBBQ and HotDogs everywherel there!
Image
The wall came from here someplace I just added a few bits and bytes.

NOTE: Not a conky in there ...
{cough cough} yet. {whistling a tune}
But when it comes ... it will be a bare bones conky ... native commands no kitchen sinks ... well maybe a bash script for current weather.

Code: Select all

    $ accw_bsas
Partly Sunny: 26C
A work in progress!

i'd advise to do your native command list via a bash script. that way you dont have to leave your terminal, which will increase your 1334 haxxor skillz superfast. plus, saves you a conky ;)

native command list via a bash script
What's that?
You don't mean aliases do you? I have a billion of those and

Code: Select all

alias
does that.

Other then that ya got me.

^ what i mean is: make a bash script that you can call, for example name it "commands". then each time you need to see your commands that you tend to forget, type "commands" in your terminal to activate the bash-script. the script will simply list your commands.
this is basically one of the simplest bash-scripts you could make. i could probably do it here without even looking. something like:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
# this displays commands because my mind leaks

echo "Alt+F1: take a screenshot"
echo "Alt+F2: launch Iceweasel"
echo "Alt+F3: launch iceweasel p0rn profile"
obviously, you are better off using Prntscrn to make a scrot, but hey, who cares right, they are your keybinds, you can do whatever you want with them!

ahem, I think that might have been conky specific native commands. Rather than fiddling with, say for example, Lua+conky. :)
