^^^ big fan of the original series too, I already stated that in the Anime section.

I think the hollywood adaptation isn't that ugly/bad, though i have low expectation of it at first.

Single White Female (Barbet Schroeder, 1992)
So and so. It does have its moments, but you forget about it the day after.

Before And After (Barbet Schroeder, 1996)
This is so underrated it pains me. One of the best Schroeder's, hands down.

Barfly (Barbet Schroeder, 1987)
Maybe it's just me not being a big fan of Bukowski, but although Mickey Rourke is great this bored the hell out of me.

Savage Dog (Jesse V. Johnson, 2017)
Good to see Adkins and Zaror backl together but this has little to offer. Violent as it is, it's also very dumb.

Eliminators (James Nunn, 2016)
Could be the best Adkins did without Florentine behind the camera.

Nocturama (Bertrand Bonello, 2016)
Overrated to say the least.

Welcome to Dongmakgol (Park Kwang-hyun, 2005)
Beautiful comedy-drama about the eternal conflict between North and South Korea.

Special Female Force (Wilson Chin Kwok-Wai, 2016)
My guilty pleasure of the year. Enough said.

Sword Master (Derek Yee Tung-Sing, 2016)
This is a Tsui Hark film, forget Derek Yee. Tsui produces and wow a what blast. I love it.

Lethal Hostage (Chang Er, 2012)
A gem any reasonable film watcher should put on top of his/her priority list. Seriously.

See You Tomorrow (Zhang Jiajia, 2016)
This goes bananas after 1 minute you're in. Not for everyone, but needless to say this is my cup of tea (or my glass of alcoholic beverage, because yes, there's so much alcohol in this).

My Beloved Bodyguard (Sammo Hung, 2016)
Sammo Hung back behind the camera after 20 years and he nails it with a total reinvention of martial arts drama. Outstanding.

I will be in for Barfly as I like Bukowski. :)

Thanks again for the list Manu.

Yesterday we watched Gravity on Netflix. A very disappointing film. The story is so unreal and fuck I just cannot stand Sandra Bullock. Clooney was just a gimmick.

The only worthwhile thing are some of the realistic effects in an otherwise totally boring science fiction movie. Nothing of intellectual value there.

Thanks for the suggestions GP, Vic, Wux.

^ Yeah, I wasn't impressed by Gravity either. For that same reason.

"The Farewell Party" about getting old, sick, and the possibility to die when one is ready. It had a couple of moments. :)

Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back (Tsui Hark, 2017)
Dear lord what a fantastic film this is. Finally Tsui Hark goes crazy like he always desired, and takes Stephen Chow script (and what he did on the first chapter) to another level. One of my films of the year, no doubt.

Gantz: O (Yasushi Kawamura, 2016)
This is avant-garde to my eyes. Again and again Japanese animation pushes everything far beyond whatever they're doing in the West. Incredible stuff.

Fallen Angels (Wong Kar-wai, 1995)
Needed to rewatch this just because it fits so nicely in between Chunking Express and See You Tomorrow.

The Holy Weapon (Wong Jing, 1993)
Total madness, but yes, I love it this way.

Saint Seiya: The Legend of the Sanctuary (Keiichi Sato, 2014)
Impressive, but it failed to conquer my heart like Gantz: O.

Spacked Out (Lawrence Ah Mon, 2000)
Delicate, intimate, but powerful and intense. This is the only way you can portray a group of teenage girls struggling to cope with the world around them. Yes, I am looking at you Sophia Coppola.

Naked Ambition (Dante Lam, Chan Hing-ka, 2003)
Porn-comedy for the first half, drama on the second one. Very, very good.

Martial Angels (Clarence Fok, 2001)
Not as good as So Close, but interesting and entertaining.

Naked Soldier (Marco Mak, 2012)
Not nearly as good as Naked Killer, nor as impossibly lovable as Naked Weapon, but still entertaining.

As usual thanks for the great list Manu!

I also have to re-watch Fallen Angels. It was my first Wong Kar-Wai.

We were into some newer Sci-Fi lately and after the disappointing Gravity we watched the overrated Interstellar. It was way better but still far far away of being a good movie.
Nope, you cannot make a new 2001.

Also, I totally agree with you on both Gravity and Interstellar.

A Gambler’s Story (Marco Mak, 2001)
To my eyes, masterpiece. To my heart, same.

The New Legend of Shaolin (Wong Jing, 1994)
Insane wuxia with the always lovable Chingmy Yau. Seriously insane.

You Shoot, I Shoot (Pang Ho-cheung, 2001)
Not sure why, but I feel this is something our Ivan can enjoy as much as I did.

My Father Is a Hero (Corey Yuen Kwai, 1995)
Fantastic choreography, but Anita Mui steals the scene and wins my heart over again.

A Moment of Romance (Benny Chan, 1990)
I rarely cry at movies. I cried like a baby at the end of this. Pathos like raindrops. And Wu Chien-Lien, well, see my avatar and you'll know why my wife has her reasons to be jealous.

Naked Weapon (Ching Siu-tung, 2002)
I am probably the only one in the world who likes this film. It's not Naked Killer, but it's a wild beast that could have served as the right way to follow for HK cinema in the new millenium. Unfortunately, they follow the money and leave this behind.

Man Wanted (Benny Chan, 1995)
Decent cop-and-gangster, with unexpected violent twists to alter the romantic drama.

The Adventurers (Ringo Lam, 1995)
Sadly overlooked Ringo Lam's. Not as good as the masterpiece Wild Search, but still very good. Keep checking my avatar for Wu Chien-Lien although Rosamunda Kwan is beautiful as well.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (Chad Stahelski, 2017)
Just as the first one: great cinematography, wrong martial arts.

Logan (James Mangold, 2017)
I couldn't care less about Marvel movies and superheroes, but many film critics I respect wrote good things about this. And it's good, yes. Maybe not as great as they say, unless they are comparing it with other Marvel films and they're all crap. I don't know, I know nothing of this movies. Anyways, John Hyams did these action scenes years ago and few noticed it. Shame on you, film critics.

As usual thanks for the great input and my list grows and grows.

Recently we watched Get Out in the cinema. It was an entertaining movie.

Hero (Yuen Kwai, 1997)
Solid period action with more drama than I was expecting. Great surprise.

Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (Stephen Chow, 2013)
Just watched this again because of the second chapter. I still prefer the second chapter.

A Moment of Romance II (Benny Chan, 1993)
Not as bad as they say, but yes, Aaron Kwok doesn't have the charisma of Andy Lau and the film suffers for that.

Bullet In The Head (John Woo, 1990)
Been reading a book about Woo, so I obviously went to my favourite of his. Masterpiece.

The Bodyguard From Beijing (Yuen Kwai, 1994)
Doesn't work that well, but the action is good anyway.

Golden Chicken (Samson Chiu, 2002)
Wow. I entered expecting a silly comedy like the third one I caught last time I went to FEFF, but this is a bitter tale of nostalgia post-handover. Beautiful.

A Moment of Romance III (Johnnie To, 1996)
To goes the Spielberg way. Interesting, but just proves that the first is one of the greatest melodrama coming out of HK.

Wonder Seven (Ching Siu-tung, 1994)
Like Naked Weapon, this is probably just for me. Not even cinema, more of a lesson of style and editing. I love it.

My School Mate, the Barbarian (Jing, Chung, 2001)
Same as before. I needed a film I hold dear in my heart before leaving for a friend wedding I didn't really want to be a part of. Needless to say, this cheered me up.

Hard Boiled (John Woo, 1992)
Again, masterpiece.

She Shoots Straight (Yuen Kwai, 1990)
What a little gem, here!

Hunting List (Chu Yen-Ping, 1994)
Sordid tale of revenge. Cheap CAT III, if you will, but goes to the point and flows like a river.

Royal Tramp (Wong Jing, 1992)
Wong Jing brings his touch to a wuxia that is way better that I was expecting.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (S. S. Rajamouli, 2017)
I understand this is a major hit worldwide, but like the first chapter something didn't click for me. The first half especially slows down the pace too much, losing that great epic I remember from the first one.

Royal Tramp II (Wong Jing, 1992)
Not as good as the first one, but it works nonetheless.
