Guess who?

Unread post by nommies » Tue Sep 10, 2019 10:30 pm

After some useless battles with the missus, I had to go dark.
The missus finally relented, and got me this "AWESOME" Chromebook :-/
I've managed to install Crouton ( I know, miracles), but I miss the grill, and I absolutely detest the Googley eyeballs.
So, updates are done with this book, and I wanna wipe it and make it totes Linux.
Any suggestions?
Btw, I really missed you guys, and now my man-tag is pulled :))

Sincerely,
nommies

No idea. Chromebooks are alien to me.
Maybe using the exact model number can help refine your search, like "XXX Chromebook best linux distro" or something?

Hi, nice to hear from you again. Sorry, Chromebooks are completely unknown territory for me.

Welcome back!

I also have to disappoint you. I am another one that has no clue about Chromebooks. I see a pattern here at the grill. But if you already are able to install Linux, if that is what you did with Crouton or whatever the fuck that is :), than head over and make a new thread and we can suggest you a Linux fix for that thing knowing some of the specs.

I hope you enjoy your stay and we'll spice it up with a nice and shiny distro, preferably lightweight.

I think I may be able to use Crouton and a separate hard drive (because there is absolutely no storage on this book) to do a vm....maybe?
I have had no luck in finding anyone who has managed to hack the Chrome out of the book, though, lols!
I think if I brought the Debian install back to bare bones, there might be enough to install a virtual machine, since the actual distro would be on a separate hard drive?
Any who....this is something that might keep me out of trouble for a while :)
Other than that, I've been focusing on my guitars and music- another reason I need more storage space and more Linux- and I have found that little German music company....I think it's called....Thomann? (lols!) They are huge by even US standards, and they are taking a lot of my money lately, lols!
@rust collector No boat,yet :(
@wuxmedia I will give it a try, you know my luck with irc, though :))

If I can get it working I will definitely post a how-to. This book has reached its end of life for updates, and Googley's only suggestion was to buy a new book.

@Ivanovnegro Lucky! The shipping is pricey to the US, so I tend to save up and order multiple items at once, but I love their in-store Harley Benton brand, so I keep coming back!
@wuxmedia LP's are making a comeback over here as well!

Just tell the missus that you love this awesome Chromebook, just as much as you love her, and thank her for it. Then you use it whilst you are saving up some money and buy a refurbished Thinkpad, any T model will do. Then you Linux your life.
